Overtime/Comptime Settings Tab
The Overtime/Comptime Settings tab lets you configure how overtime and comptime is calculated for each payroll processing group.
Fields
Overtime/Comptime Calculation Options: Overtime/Comptime is based on a seven day work week and the work week can begin on any day of the week. Also, the number of hours in a work week is variable and can be defined below. Last, the calculation of Double Time is an optional function and can be set up below.
- OT/Comp: Select this check box to calculate overtime/comptime entered on Timesheets using the EWS module.
- Process Group: Select a processing group or enter an * (asterisk) to apply to all processing groups.
- Start Day: Select the day that starts the work week, such as, Sunday or Monday.
- Double Time: Select this check box to calculate double time.
- Weekly OT: Enter the number of hours that must be met in a seven day work week before an employee is entitled to overtime. Be sure to select the OT check box, otherwise, overtime/comptime will not be calculated. For example, if your labor policy states that hourly employees working more than 40 hours in a work week must be paid mandatory overtime pay. You should select the OT check box, enter 40 in the Weekly OT column, and any employee who exceeds that number, overtime starts calculating.
- Daily OT: Enter the number of hours that must be met in a work day before an employee is entitled to overtime. Be sure to select the OT check box, otherwise, overtime/comptime will not be calculated. For example, if your labor policy states that hourly employees working more than 8 hours in a work day must be paid mandatory overtime pay. You should select the OT check box, enter 8 in the Daily OT column, and any employee who exceeds that number, overtime starts calculating.
- Daily DT: Enter the number of hours that must be met in a work day before an employee is entitled to double time. Be sure to select the DT check box, otherwise, double time will not be calculated. For example, if your labor policy states that hourly employees working more than 12 hours in a work day must be paid mandatory double time pay. You should select the DT check box, enter 12 in the Daily DT column, and any employee who exceeds that number, double time starts calculating.
- DT 7th Day: Enter the number of hours that an employee can work on the work day specified in the Days OT field before double time wages are incurred. For example, if an employee who works seven consecutive days earns regular time during the first eight hours, and double time after eight hours, enter 8 in this field.
- Days DT: Enter the number of days that must be worked in a seven day work week before an employee is entitled to double time. Be sure to select the DT check box, otherwise, overtime will not be calculated. For example, if your labor policy states that workers working 7 days straight in a single work week must be paid double time after the number of hours specified in the DT 7th Day field, enter 7 in this field.
Overtime Script Update Options: Select a radio button that reflects the method used to calculate overtime and comptime on timesheets submitted through EWS.
- Calculate OT/Comp only on earnings time entries NOT associated with leave—This option does not include any leave time (vacation, sick time, and so on) when calculating overtime or comptime.
- Calculate OT/comp on all earnings time entries—This option includes all time entered when calculating overtime and comptime, including leave time (vacation, sick time, and so on).
- Calculate OT/Comp only on selected earnings codes NOT associated with leave—This option calculates overtime and comptime only on the earnings codes specified in the Selected Earnings Codes option.
- Selected Earnings Codes Option—If you select the previous option, use this field to enter the earnings codes to use in the overtime/comptime calculation. Each code should be surrounded by single quotes, and multiple codes are separated by commas. For example: 'Wages','StaffWages','HourPay'
Note: If you select any of the radio buttons other than the first one, select Update Scripts, and then return to this page later, the first radio button will be selected again. That is because of the default value of the radio button set on the page. It does not mean that your changes were not made, and will not affect the scripts used to calculate overtime and comptime until you select Update Scripts again.
Important: The selections you make in this section will overwrite the existing overtime calculation method. You should test the new method by submitting timesheets that include overtime and comptime situations and make sure that the calculation is performed correctly.
